The Quest for the Perfect Pimm's Cup; A Memory of Summer Days...

Summer seems a long ways away now with swirling ice flakes and a grand high of 24 degrees here in Boston, but once upon a time we were making citrus-y cocktails and sitting on the balcony in the sun-dappled light.

A Pimm's Cup hardly suits now but you can always tuck away the thought for June. We started out with 2.5 recipes, a bottle and some of Pimm's, and all the fruits and garnishes we could dream up (well, almost).

*Proper bartending / cocktail sipping attire also required.

Shoes are not.

In our research, we came across a wide variety of Pimm's recipes all slight variations on the basic idea of Pimm's, lemon flavoring, bubbles, and fruit/mint. British lemonade seems to be a carbonated ready made lemon drink while American lemonade is water, lemon juice, and sugar. Lemon-lime soda is the closest we seem to have this side of the states.

Starting with Pimm's and small glasses so we could easily go back for seconds - and thirds - we topped it off with lemonade, lemon-lime soda, and ginger ale alternately.

Every option seemed to have a shining feature, be it aroma, color, or taste and it quickly became a bit hard to pick a favorite.

We retired to the balcony with the best of a good group. Just a bit of American lemonade, topped with ginger ale and stuffed with fruit.

Maybe we need to work on a Pimm's Cup seasonal recipe for the holidays?
